    Course Description:

    This eight-week study program will give a shortened introduction to culture specific evangelism, and specific application to ministry within Japanese culture. Through this study we will be able to more effectively explain the gospel to people of different worldviews and cultures and Japanese culture.

    Format for Course:

    1. Reading:

    Papers written by Daniel Kikawa and Associates (Distributed digitally):
    1. What is Culture Specific Evangelism, Daniel Kikawa
    2. Cultural Theology and Missiology, Part 1 & 2, Daniel Kikawa
    3. The Cross-Cultural Evangelism Game, Daniel Kikawa, 1997, Aloha Ke Akua, $12. To order this, go to Alohakeakua, click “Enter” at the bottom of the page and then click the link for “Books.”
    4. Eternity in Their Hearts, Don Richardson, Third Edition, 2005, Regal. Available at Amazon and elsewhere, $10.
    5. Operation Japan, A Prayer Guide for Japan, Fifth Edition, 2018 (Digital Format). $5.00. The digital version is available as a down-load from Don Wright. This updated version includes pictures and greatly expanded content and is linked with the internet for additional information.

    2. Viewing:

    Weekly introductory videos by Daniel Kikawa and videos of special presentations at RJC Conferences.

    3. Writing:

    1. Weekly Observations: Due every Saturday 11:59pm. “What I Have Learned.” This will be submitted on-line and posted on www.rjcnetwork.org, accessible by password only.
    2. Students will read reports from other students weekly and make comments.
    3. Attend three Conference Call Discussions.

    Introduction to Culture Specific Evangelism

    * View “Culture Specific Evangelism Principles Which Can Revolutionize Your Mission,” Daniel Kikawa’s Webinar, 5-31-16
    * Read “What is Culture Specific Evangelism” by Daniel Kikawa
    * Read “Jesus Living and Discipling Among The Lost,” by John Ridgway
    * Pray daily for Japan and Japanese, using Operation Japan.
    * Participate in a zoom conference call. The call will help to get acquainted with the students, explain procedures and answer any questions.
    * Post thoughts and questions online.

    Session 2

    Examples of Culture Specific Evangelism #1

    * View video introducing Don Richardson (Dr. Daniel Kikawa)
    * Read “Eternity in Their Hearts,” Part 1 by Don Richardson
    * Read “Cultural Theology and Missiology” by Daniel Kikawa
    * Pray daily for Japan and Japanese, using Operation Japan.

    * Read through and play Game #1 & 2 in “The Cross-Cultural Evangelism Game.” If possible, use the workbook in a group-learning experience.

    * Read Eternity in Their Hearts, pages 1 – 96.
    * Interview a Japanese, preferably not a Christian. Ask about their undrstanding of religion.
    * Pray daily for Japan and Japanese, using Operation Japan.
    * Post thoughts and questions online.

    Session 5

    CSE and Japanese Culture

    * Zoom Conference Call
    * View Week Five Video (Dr. Daniel Kikawa).
    * View “Culture Specific Evangelism For Reaching Japanese” Webinar
    * View “God’s Fingerprints in Japan” #1 & #2
    * Pray daily for Japan and Japanese, using Operation Japan.
    * Post thoughts and questions online.

    Session 6

    CSE and Japanese Culture

    * Cross Culture Game, Japan Specific”
    * Read “Sharing The Good News with Japanese”–Arthur Rouzer
    * Pray daily for Japan and Japanese, using Operation Japan
    * Post thoughts and questions online.

    Session 7

    Japanese To Christ

    * View “Five Patterns Of Accepting Christianity” by Eiko Takamizawa
    * View “Process For Japanese Coming To Christ” by Ken Milhous
    * Interview a Japanese Christian and detail the steps it took for that person to believe. Compare the steps with Ken Milhous’ presentation
    * Pray daily for Japan and Japanese, using Operation Japan.
    * Post thoughts and questions online.

    Session 8

    Japanese Returnees

    * Zoom Conference Call
    * View Video (Dr. Daniel Kikawa).
    * View “Returnees and Evangelism” by Jack and Keiko Marshall
